About Us
Disability Housing In Australia
The choice to live independently and who you choose to live with should be a basic right for everybody, yet this is not the case for many individuals living with a disability. The Australian Government reports that accessible housing is in critical shortage, with 60 percent of people with a disability are without a suitable home that meets their needs. This includes adults with disability living with aging parents or other family carers, those being forced to share accommodation with others whom they may not choose to live with, together with the 6,000 adults who are living in Aged Care, despite being in their 30s or 40s because there are simply no other options available to them.
Based on current supply, there is a gap of more than 10,000 homes which are urgently needed for Australians living with disability.
The goal of the Government National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is to offer participants freedom and choice to move out of unsuitable housing and enjoy as much independence as they wish. It is expected 28,000 Australian adults with disability will require NDIS Accommodation Services of some description.
To reach this goal, and meet the demand, there is an urgent need to significantly increase the range and scale of housing for people with disabilities.
Through our planned developments, My SDA aims to provide high-quality, fully accessible housing options for people with disabilities that enables them to live as independently as possible, enhancing their health, wellbeing, and participation in the community.
